Bishop Paprocki's public schedule for the weeks of December 10 and 18.

Mary Susan “Sue” Eck Morris passed away on Oct. 5. She was born in Springfield on July 8, 1937, the daughter of Albert and C. Olive Pfeffer Eck, and sister of Al (Nancy), John (Linda), and Sara (Jim, deceased) O’Rourke. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield.

When she was a senior in high school, she met Jim Morris, who attended the University of Notre Dame. She enrolled at St. Mary’s College for their equestrian and chemistry programs. The couple dated throughout college and wed at Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield in 1958.

ST. LOUIS — More than 350 guests were in attendence Oct. 19 to see Father Jeffrey Goeckner, pastor of St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville, named a “great preacher” by Aquinas Institute of Theology.

The 23rd Annual Great Preacher Award dinner recognized Father Goeckner and St. Louis area priest, Father Edward Stanger of suburban Ballwin, Mo.

Sister Darlene Fulgenzi, OSU

EUREKA, Mo. — Sister Darlene (Margherita) Fulgenzi, OSU, died peacefully at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka, Mo., on Oct. 11. The daughter of Adolfo and Margaret Daniele Fulgenzi, she was born on Feb. 28, 1938 in Springfield.

Sister Darlene attended St. Joseph’s School in Springfield and Ursuline Academy in Springfield, graduating in 1956. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1956 and professed her vows in January 1959. She earned her bachelor’s degree in classical languages from the College of New Rochelle (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and her master’s degree in Latin from St. Louis University. She also studied Scripture and spirituality at the Ursuline Generalate in Rome, Italy during her tertian year of spiritual renewal in 1977-1978.

Obituary - Sister Teresita Kern, ASC

RUMA — Sister Teresita Kern, ASC, died Friday, Oct. 13, at the Ruma Center in Ruma. She was 93 and had been a professed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ for 76 years.

Sister Teresita was born on June 5, 1924 in Red Bud, one of eight children of Christian and Helen (Kelly) Kern. She made her first profession on July 1, 1941 and her final vows on July 1, 1946.

Obituary - Sister Rita Marie Lucash, ASC

RUMA — Sister Rita Marie Lucash, ASC, died Oct. 2 at the Ruma Center in Ruma. She was 89 years old and was a professed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ for 70 years.

Sister Rita Marie was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Freeburg, the third of four children of Walter and Estella (Nehring) Lucash. She made first vows on July 1, 1947 and final vows on July 1, 1952.

Obituary - Sister Agatha Niebrugge, PHJC

Sister Agatha Niebrugge (Zita Therese), PHJC, passed away on Oct. 4 at the Catherine Kasper Home in Donaldson, Ind.

Sister Agatha was born in Effingham on Aug. 11, 1928 to Anthony and Anna (Aulenbrock) Niebrugge who preceded her in death along with her siblings Paul, Lawrence (Dorothy), Alphonse, Martha Muehlenfeld (Joe), Johanna Spracklin (Bernard), Ambrose (Dorothy), Father Herman, Dolores Bede (Stockman), Mary Ann, Anna Marie, Father Richard, and Bernard. Her brother Tony Niebrugge survives along with sister-in-laws Barbara, Dolores and Margaret Niebrugge. Sister Agatha noted in her biography, “Needless to say, Father and Mother had sufficient opportunities to practice parenting.”

EDWARDSVILLE — Ask anyone associated with Catholic Charities Legal Services (CCLS) and they’ll tell you attorney Christopher Hunter lives up to the motto lex cordis caritas, the law of the heart is love.

Hunter, of the firm, Hunter and Johnson, P.C. in Godfrey, was recognized with the inaugural Lex Cordis Caritas Award for his “service and devotion to the principles of pro bono representation of low income individuals in need of legal services.” He accepted the award from Bishop Thomas John Paprocki following the Red Mass at St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville on Oct. 15.
