Bishop George J. Lucas has received a letter thanking the people of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois for a contribution of $71,200 to the 2008 Good Friday collection to the Commissariat of the Holy Land.

In the letter, Brother Joe Rogenski, OFM, of the commissary of the Holy Land, St. Louis region, said, "The Good Friday collection ... helps support the Holy Land shrines and also the educational, pastoral and charitable programs for the people there. The custody cares for the poorest social classes. I'm sure you are well aware that it is not easy to be a Christian today in the Holy Land."

Brother Joe expressed his "deep appreciation, much gratitude and a promise of prayer for you and the people of God in the Diocese of Springfield."
