Food and household supplies are much needed by Catholic Charities Holy Family Food Pantry in order to meet the increased summer time call for help from needy families in the Springfield area. With schools out for the summer, there are no regular school food drives to help stock the Holy Family Food Pantry shelves, plus school‑age children of needy families are home, and not getting meals at schools.
"We have seen an increase in the number of people seeking food and we are really struggling to keep enough food on the shelves to offer them," said Janet Nelson, supervisor at Holy Family Food Pantry. "We are aware that things are very tight for everyone due to high gas and food prices, but please keep in mind how much harder that makes it for those already struggling."
Items needed include: canned and fresh fruit, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti, canned ravioli and other pastas, pork and beans, cereal, pancake mix and syrup, gelatin mixes, soups, vegetables, juice drinks and mixes, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and feminine products.
Items can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Holy Family Food Pantry, 1023 E. Washington, Springfield. Please call (217) 523-2450 before dropping off donations.
