GRANITE CITY - Holy Family Church in Granite City will host Glenmary Father Francois Pellissier during Masses on July 12-13. Masses are at 4 p.m. on Saturday and at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. He will be speaking at the invitation of the Office for the Missions to share information about Glenmary Home Missioners and their ministry in Appalachia, the South and Southwest.
Father Pellissier, a native of France, currently works out of the Cincinnati office in the development department. He has ministered to Hispanics in Mississippi and spent two years living in Mexico ministering to those living in small, isolated villages. He has also served in Glenmary mission parishes in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Georgia and Texas.
Founded in 1939, Glenmary is a Catholic society of priests and brothers, who along with coworkers, minister primarily in the United States. They bring a Catholic Church presence to counties where less than three percent of the population is Catholic and the poverty level is almost twice the national average.
Currently Glenmary serves over 50 missions in rural America, helping meet the spiritual and material needs of people in 14 dioceses.
