Teens show true meaning of Christmas

PITTSFIELD — Each year, Veritas, the teen group at St. Mary Parish in Pittsfield sponsors a “Christmas Giving Tree” to help where local need identifies itself to the youth.

This year, the beneficiary was a local mother, and her 3-year-old and 8-month-old sons. The mother had just returned home in mid-December to recuperate from severe injuries she suffered in an automobile accident.

This year, the beneficiary was a local mother, and her 3-year-old and 8-month-old sons. The mother had just returned home in mid-December to recuperate from severe injuries she suffered in an automobile accident.

Veritas and the parish rallied to the cause, and again this year, replaced every tag on the tree with a generous gift from the heart. Besides the Christmas gifts themselves (pictured), parishioners donated an additional $750.

On Dec. 21, just before Christmas, the mother received the donations. Angela Lipcamon, Veritas sponsor, said the mom was moved “beyond words and so genuinely grateful.” Her needs still include prayer for her recovery from her injuries. The woman received a blessing from Father Mark Schulte, pastor of St. Mary Parish.

In years past, Veritas has supported Living Alternatives Pregnancy Resource Center in Jacksonville, the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Catholic Charities of Quincy, local Pittsfield Food and Clothing Pantries, local nursing homes and families in need throughout the area.
