COLLINSVILLE — The women of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Collinsville will be putting the recently-constructed church gathering space to good use late this summer when they host their annual Women’s Day celebration.
This year’s event, “Miracles of our Faith,” will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. in the newly-blessed fellowship hall in the basement of the gathering space, which is located at 207 Vandalia St. The main speaker at the event will be Catholic Radio hostess and award-winning author Elizabeth Ficocelli.
Ficocelli will use storytelling and pictures to explain spiritual wonders such as eucharistic miracles, stigmata, incorrupt bodies, levitation, apparitions, visions, as well as weeping statues and images. Well-known because she is heard on Catholic radio and appears on Catholic television, Ficocelli guest hosts live national radio programs such as Catholic Connection and Kresta in the Afternoon.
A convert to Catholicism, Ficocelli has published over 15 books for both adults and children that she wrote to nurture and inspire the Catholic faith. Her books for adults focus on Lourdes; the fruits of Medjugorje; Sts. Therese, Faustina and Bernadette; and raising children with the sacraments. Her many children’s books cover the sacraments, understanding vocations and following Jesus, among other topics. She and her husband live in Columbus, Ohio and have four sons.
Ss. Peter and Paul parishioner Carol Moore says first- and second-class relics of saints will be on display for veneration. “Guests may bring rosaries and/or other religious items to touch the relics,” she says. “A piece of Mary’s veil, a piece of the true cross of Christ and a first-class relic of St. Padre Pio will be on display.” Attendees are also invited to participate in eucharistic exposition and adoration, Benediction, and in praying the rosary.
The $20 cost to attend the day will include a continental breakfast and lunch. There will be plenty of opportunities to shop at vendor’s booths and prize drawings will occur throughout the event, Moore says.
Attendance is open to anyone over the age of 13. Call the parish office at (618) 345-4343 for registration information, registration forms and questions regarding the event.
