ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Father Francis P. White, the oldest member of the Viatorian community, passed away peacefully on June 7, at the Viatorian Province Center in Arlington Heights. He was born Sept. 19, 1917 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Mary Loretta (Nollen) White. He was 97 years old and had served as a Roman Catholic priest for more than 70 years.
Sister Elizabeth Ann Bedinghaus, OP, died April 19 at age 103. The daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Stork Bedinghaus, she became a Dominican Sister of Springfield 75 years ago.
Sister Elizabeth Ann taught for 47 years in various parish schools, many in the Springfield diocese: Our Lady of Grace, Chicago; St. Paul, Odell; Sacred Heart, Pana; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Bethalto; St. Malachy, Rantoul; and Our Lady of Lourdes, Decatur. She also taught in catechetical centers in Hillsboro and Carlinville.
ST. LOUIS — Sister Henriette Hoene, SSND, died April 7 at Anna House — the Sarah Community in Bridgeton, Mo. She was 97 years old and a former congregational leader, pastoral associate and teacher. She would have celebrated her 75th jubilee as a School Sister of Notre Dame this May.
Sister Henriette was born in Green Creek. She entered the congregation in 1936 from St. Mary Help of Christians Parish in Green Creek. She professed first vows in 1940 and final vows in 1946. She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1942, a master's in education in 1951, as well as a master's in theology in 1963.
MILWAUKEE — Sister Francis Sarabeth Prindle, OSF, who lived her religious vocation in education and social services, died March 19 at Sacred Heart Convent in Milwaukee. She was 87 years old.
The daughter of Lulu and Preston Prindle, she was born July 29, 1927 in Quincy. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1950; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1952; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1958.
Sister Helen Frances "Fran" Winkler, OSF, 87, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, died April 23 at St. Francis Convent in Springfield.
Sister Fran, formerly known as Sister Don Bosco, was born in Trenton on Nov. 3, 1927, the daughter of Raymond and Anna Cope Winkler. She entered the congregation on March 31, 1943, and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1945.
Sister M. Agnes McDougall, OSF, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on April 6 at St. Francis Convent in Springfield. She was 82.
Sister Agnes was born in Indianapolis on Feb. 26, 1933, the daughter of John and Agnes Cooper McDougall. She entered the congregation on Sept. 12, 1951 and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1954.
ALTON — Sister Margaret Mary Butski, FSGM, passed away on March 6 at OSF Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was 57 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 10 at the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George Convent Chapel with Father Thomas Donovan as celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis of the Martyr St. George Convent, P.O. Box 9020, Alton, IL 62002-9020.
WHEELING — Father Robert F. Cooney, CSV, died at Addolorata Villa here on Dec. 12. He was 87 years old.
Sister Wilma Marie (M. Pius) Broemmel, OP, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Nov. 30. She was 98 years old and was born in Quincy to Bernard and Antoinette Holtkamp Broemmel.
QUINCY — Father Thomas Shaughnessy, OFM, of St. Francis Solanus Friary in Quincy, died Nov. 29 in Blessing Hospital at age 81. He was born Aug. 3, 1933 in St. Louis, the son of Thomas and Margaret Moore Shaughnessy.
Sister M. Paschal Cheng of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Nov. 14 at St. Francis Convent in Springfield. She was 95.
The former Theresa Cheng (Chinese name: Cheng Fu Hsin), she was born in Ho Pei Tsao in the People's Republic of China on Aug. 7, 1919, the daughter of John and Martha Ho Cheng. She entered the congregation on Oct. 8, 1945 and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1948.
Sister Aloise Meurer, 98, died June 27. She was born in Evansville to Louis and Rose Meurer. In 1941 she professed final vows in the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
Sister Lenore Baranczyk, 94, died July 14. She was born in Hofa Park, Wis., to John and Mary Bluma Baranczyk. She professed her religious vows in 1941.
Sister M. Claudia Loader, 82, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died June 21. She was born in Detroit, Mich., to George and Flora Boers Loader. In 1950, she joined the Springfield Dominicans.
CHICAGO — Tan V. Tran, father of Father Thinh Van Tran, OFM, parochial vicar of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Teutopolis, died June 16.
