Most important, he said, he came to concelebrate Mass for curia staff members in the chapel at the Catholic Pastoral Center. He was also in Springfield for the unveiling of his professional portrait.

St. Patrick Catholic School promotes recycling programs

"My father, Bill Dennis, owned two salvage yards, one in Lincoln and one in Bloomington, so we were taught you had to reduce, reuse and recycle. It just makes sense. There is only so much room in the landfills, so what are you going to do? You recycle."

Teens challenged in mind, body and spirit during leadership institute

Adults are supporting the students who attend Vacation Bible School by contributing VBS food items; children brought cereal, peanut butter and other canned items to VBS sessions to help fill shelves at the local food pantry; and this year a good number of children and adult parishioners have been sponsoring the purchases of mosquito nets for children in Western Africa.

Associate director Carlos Tejeda is arranging for couples to benefit from a retreat similar to one that he and his wife Elena have already attended in another state.

Ordination-044-editedOn Saturday, June 16, Bishop Kevin W. Vann of the Diocese of Fort Worth — and a priest of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois — ordained 14 men to the sacred diaconate. The ordination Mass took place at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield.
