Fr Goeckner great preacher awardST. LOUIS — More than 350 guests were in attendence Oct. 19 to see Father Jeffrey Goeckner, pastor of St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville, named a “great preacher” by Aquinas Institute of Theology.

The 23rd Annual Great Preacher Award dinner recognized Father Goeckner and St. Louis area priest, Father Edward Stanger of suburban Ballwin, Mo.

Surrounded by family, friends and parishioners, each priest was recognized for his ability to encourage and inspire through their preaching as they lead people to find and follow God.

“I am truly humbled to receive the award and dedicate it those who inspire me: brother preachers, parishioners, friends and family,” said Father Goeckner.

Father Goeckner has been pastor at St. Boniface Catholic Church since 2007 and, since 2010, dean of the Alton Deanery. In 2015, he was named the first president of Father McGivney Catholic High School in Glen Carbon. Ordained a priest by Bishop Daniel Ryan in 1995, Father Goeckner has also served on the diocesan Presbyteral Council, College of Consulters, Priests’ Personnel Board, Commission for Renovation and Restoration and as an Episcopal Master of Ceremonies.

All of the funds raised at the annual dinner helps the Institute meet the educational needs of current and future students. This years’ proceeds and donations made through the Great Preacher Award benefit the Aquinas Fund and are made in honor of Fathers Goeckner and Stanger.
