Hansen named editor, director of Communications
On Jan. 14, Andrew Hansen joined the Curia staff for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois as director of Communications — and is also now editor of Catholic Times. Hansen replaced Marlene Mulford and Scott Mulford, who retired on Dec. 31, 2018 as director of Communications and as editor of Catholic Times, respectively.
Hansen is a graduate of Valparaiso University with degrees in TV/radio and sports management and a minor in business. He came to the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois from the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus, where he was a press secretary and communications specialist. He spent more than four years working alongside legislators and within the legislative process. Earlier on in his career, he worked for seven years at ABC Newschannel 20 as a news anchor/reporter. He began his career at the NBC affiliate in Quincy.
Hansen has interviewed people in the diocesan curia as the host of the radio show The Law of the Heart is Love, which broadcasts over Catholic radio in the diocese. He is a member of Christ the King Parish and serves as a reader and sits on the Stewardship and Discipleship Committee. He is also on the board of First Step Women’s Center in Springfield and The Forge, which is a young adult Catholic group in Springfield.
He is married to Rachel Hansen, who is a reading teacher at Christ the King School in Springfield. They have three very young sons: Anthony, Vincent and William.
“We at Catholic Times have greatly benefitted from the guidance and friendships of both Scott and Marlene. They have been with us through the good times and the difficult times and deserve a long, happy and healthy retirement. We will miss them and wish them only the best,” said Diane Schlindwein, associate editor. “Of course, we also look forward to working with Andrew, who is enthusiastic in his Catholic faith, and will undoubtedly bring his own ideas to better our publication.”
