EJ Kuiper has been selected to serve as the president and CEO at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He has been serving in this role as interim since November 2018 after the former president and CEO, Dr. Charles Lucore, left HSHS for a position in New York.
Kuiper joined HSHS when he was appointed president and CEO of the HSHS Central Illinois Division (CID) in November 2013. He will continue to serve in this CID role in addition to his new appointment at St. John’s.
“I am honored to continue in this leadership role at HSHS St. John’s Hospital,” Kuiper said. “I hope to continue building relationships with our colleagues and medical staff in the Springfield community that will allow us to enhance all aspects of health care for our patients.”
Prior to joining HSHS, Kuiper served in various executive roles for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in southwest Florida after which he served as president and CEO of Saint Anthony’s Health System based in Alton.
Kuiper received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the Academy for Physical Therapy in the Netherlands. He went on to get his MHA from Florida Gulf Coast University and a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine.
Kuiper and his wife, Patty, have three grown children: Joshua, Megan and Emily who all reside in Florida. He is an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoys catching games when he can.
