Springfield Dominican Sister M. Alice Mannix, 88, of Springfield, died on May 3 at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Little Falls, Minn., in 1930 and named Margaret Ann. She made her profession of vows in 1950 at Sacred Heart Convent.
Sister M. Alice ministered as a middle school and junior and high school teacher for 37 years, primarily in Illinois and in Minnesota and Michigan. She was director of religious education at Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Maryville from 1988-1998.
For many years, she ministered with persons with intellectual and physical disabilities at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield; through membership in the National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry; and with Victorious Missionaries, a ministry of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville.
Sister M. Alice was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ernest and Dorothy Corrigan Mannix and her sister, JoAnn Jarrio. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters; her nephew, Kurt Jarrio; many cousins; and many dear friends.
A Funeral Mass for Sister M. Alice was celebrated on the evening of May 7 at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, as celebrant. Morning Prayer and Final Commendation took place on May 8, also at the convent chapel. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
