Sister Marian L. Hogan, OSU, age 84, of Springfield, died Nov. 3 at the St. Francis Convent Infirmary.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Adrian Patrick and Mary Alice Kernan Hogan. She entered the Ursuline Order on July 16, 1940 and made her first vows on Jan. 1, 1943 in Crystal City, Mo. Sister Marian graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, Minn., and received a bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle, NY; and master's degrees from St. Louis University and St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minn.
During her years in the education ministry, Sister Marian taught at St. Patrick, St. Ambrose, Godfrey, and Ss. Peter and Paul in Alton; St. Bernard in Wood River; Ursuline Academy and St. Patrick in Galveston, Texas; Ss. Peter and Paul in Springfield; Corpus Christi High School in Jennings, Mo.; Laboure High and Cardinal Ritter College Prep. in St. Louis; St. Teresa High School in Decatur; and Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, Minn. In 2003, Sister Marian celebrated 60 years as an Ursuline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Adrian Joseph Hogan; and two sisters, Marilyn Maureen Henry and Sister Alice Marie Hogan, OSU.
She is survived by three sisters, Madonna Murphy of Attleboro, Mass., Mercia Hogan of Wabasha, Minn., and Mary Wilson of Tahoe City, Calif.; seven nieces and 12 nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins; and her Ursuline Sisters.
The funeral Mass was Nov. 7 at St. Francis Convent Motherhouse, with Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, presiding. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Burial at The Villa Maria Center in Frontenac, Minn., will be at a later date.
