The daughter of Barney J. and Lena Schneider Becker, she was born June 9, 1914 in Maxville, Mo. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School in Arnold, Mo., and received her secondary education at Ursuline Academy in St. Louis. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in Alton on July 15, 1933, and made her first vows in January 1936.
Completing her bachelor’s degree at Fontbonne College in St. Louis, she was a dedicated elementary school teacher on a wide range of grade levels and served in Galveston, Texas; Kirkwood, Crystal City, Arnold, Bonne Terre, Clayton and Festus in Missouri; and Springfield, Oak Park and Alton in Illinois. She joined the Queen of Peace Retirement Community in Alton in September of 2002.
Of her six siblings, two survive her: Edna Marquette of St. Louis and Cecilia Wallman of Festus, Mo. She was preceded in death by brothers Edward and Albert and sisters Marie Becker Blumer and Sister Pearl Becker, who was also an Ursuline sister.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 14, at the Ursuline Convent Chapel in Alton, with Father Shawn Monahan OMV, presiding. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
