Obituary - Sister Mary Patrick O’Brien, OSU

She was born in Decatur and attended the former Ursuline Academy in Springfield. She entered the Ursuline community in 1941 and made her first vows in 1944. She studied at the College of New Rochelle in New York, Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and St. Louis University.

Sister Mary Patrick served as a teacher, principal, college president, pastoral associate, prioress and provincial councilor, with assignments in Illinois, Missouri, Louisiana and Texas.  She taught at Ursuline Academy in Springfield from 1947 to 1949, at Blessed Sacrament from 1949 to 1950, and at St. Teresa’s High School in Decatur from 1954 to 1957.  She was president of Springfield College from 1971 to 1975.

She retired and joined the Queen of Peace health care community in Alton in 2000.

A funeral Mass was celebrated June 10  for Sister Mary Patrick at the Ursuline Convent Chapel in Alton
