Sister Mary Ann (Sister Mary Aloysius) Droste, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Nov. 25.
She was born in Alton, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Brinkman) Droste and joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1940.
Sister Mary Ann was a teacher for 40 years. She held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and taught grades 1-7 at parish schools in Aurora, East St. Louis, Carrollton, Matteson, Chicago, and Redlands, Calif. Upon retirement from teaching, she ministered at a religious education center in Hillsboro and as a parish visitor in St. John Bosco Parish, Chicago, and Ss. Peter and Paul in Naperville. Eleven years ago, she moved to Sacred Heart Convent where she lived until her death.
Sister Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sisters, Mary and Agatha, and a brother, Ben. She is survived by six sisters, Sister Juliana Droste, FSM, of Marceline, Mo., Sister Dolores Droste, OSU, of Alton, Sister Clare Droste, FSM, of Pilot Knob, Mo., Agnes Hesse of Burgaw, N.C., Julie Mulrean and Gertie Droste, both of Godfrey; and two brothers, David Droste of Godfrey and Paul Droste of Alton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Convent in Springfield, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, presiding at the funeral Mass. Burial was Dec. 1 at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.
