Sister James Marie Pallas, 90, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Dec. 13, 2010.
She was born in Chicago, the daughter of James and Marie (Green) Pallas. She joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1936.
Sister James Marie began her teaching ministry in Redlands, Calif. She taught elementary education and then music classes at several grade levels for 38 years at schools in Chicago, East St. Louis, Jacksonville, Rantoul and Springfield. From 1975-1986, Sister James Marie served in the liturgy office of the Springfield diocese. She also served as liturgist at St. Francis in Jerseyville and was retreat director at Queen of Peace in Fargo, N.D. From 1991-2000, Sister James Marie taught music and worked in the bookstore at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. She lived at Sacred Heart Convent from 2000 until her death.
Sister James Marie was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, James and Alfred. She is survived by three nieces and a nephew, all from the Chicago area.
The funeral Mass was held Dec. 15 at Sacred Heart Convent, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, presiding. Commendation and burial was Dec. 16 at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield.
