Written by

The Serra Club of Springfield is sponsoring its sixth annual Lenten Day of Prayer and Reflection on Saturday, March 26 at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 1615 West Washington St. in Springfield. Springfield Serra Club is part of Serra International, a Catholic organization that is focused on furthering vocations to the priesthood and  religious life.

The day will begin with 8:30 a.m.  Mass in St. Viator Chapel at the Pastoral Center. Father John Sullivan, OFM, of Alton will preside at Mass and will speak on the topic of “Genesis and the Human Condition.” He will answer questions such as “Why did God make us?”, “Why did Jesus Christ have to suffer and die?”, “Why do we struggle with good and evil?”, “Why do good people have to suffer?” and more.

In addition to participating in Mass and hearing talks on Genesis, participants will pray the rosary, follow the Stations of the Cross, participate in eucharistic adoration and have the opportunity to attend reconciliation. The day will conclude with Benediction at 3 p.m.

Those who plan to attend the prayer day are asked to read the first three chapters of Genesis prior to attending and to bring a Bible to the event. The day will include breakfast and lunch and a free-will offering will be taken up. Reservations are required.
