Sister M. Leonette Clancy, OP, 91, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died March 21. She was born to Mary Ann (Hough) and James Clancy in Chicago. She joined the Dominican Sisters in 1935.
Sister M. Leonette’s ministries included serving as a teacher, musician and principal; she also served as motherhouse prioress. She is remembered as a music teacher, pianist and organist at these schools and parishes: Cathedral, Little Flower and St. Patrick, Springfield; St. John Bosco and St. Edward, Chicago; Holy Cross, Mendota; and Sacred Heart in Redlands and San Diego, Calif.
Sister M. Leonette was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James and her sister, Sister Mary Ann Eileen, BVM. She is survived by a nephew Christopher Clancy of LaTuna Canyon, Calif., and a niece Carol Santi of Columbia, S.C.
The funeral Mass was held March 23 at Sacred Heart Convent in Springfield, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, presiding. Burial was March 24 in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield.
Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
