The daughter of Francis Joseph Boyle and Rose Moran, she was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Lowell, Mass. Of her three siblings, her sister, Ruth McDade, survives her. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Arthur Boyle.
Sister Muriel Rose attended elementary school at St. Peter's in Lowell, Mass., and secondary school with the Ursuline Sisters at Ursuline Academy in Lowell. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1944 and made her first vows in May 1947. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, in 1968.
She served more than 50 years in the schools of Laredo, San Antonio, and Falfurrias, Texas; and in Springfield.
She continued doing volunteer work at two schools in Dallas, Texas, near her senior citizen residence center until she retired and came to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton in 2008. There, she sometimes walked over to West Elementary School to offer her service as a volunteer. She chuckled, as did those who observed her, when she went to the police station, veil and all, to undergo the finger print requirement for this work.
The funeral Mass was held July 29 at the Ursuline Convent Chapel in Alton, with Father Mark Dean, OMI, presiding.
Memorials may be made to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center, 845 Danforth Street, Alton, IL, 62002.
Staten-Fine Funeral Home, Alton, was in charge of arrangements.
