DECATUR — Michael Hicks has been named president and CEO of HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. He will begin serving in his role on April 1.
Hicks comes to St. Mary’s after spending more than two decades with UChicago Medicine: Ingalls Memorial, a non-for-profit in the Chicago area. He most recently served as the senior vice president and chief operating officer. Hicks is a hospital executive with a proven track record in inpatient, outpatient and service line development. The first several years in his career were spent working in the healthcare sales field.
“I am very excited to have Mike join our St. Mary’s team and am confident he will continue to build on the wonderful things happening there,” said EJ Kuiper, president and CEO of the HSHS Central Illinois Division. “St. Mary’s is very important to HSHS and the Decatur community. I look forward to working with Mike as we advance health care in the region.”
“I am honored and excited to become part of Hospital Sisters Health System. HSHS’ values and mission are the perfect fit for me,” said Hicks. “I have been very impressed and inspired by the St. Mary’s colleagues and leaders I’ve been fortunate to meet so far. It’s clear that St. Mary’s is a very special place in many hearts and in the Decatur community.”
Hicks received his bachelor’s in communications from Purdue University in 1987. He also has an MBA from Northwestern University.
Hicks and his wife, Mary Beth, are now empty-nesters, but they have four grown children and three granddaughters. They are looking forward to relocating to Decatur and becoming part of the community.
