QUINCY — On May 5, the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelite group of St. Joseph, Faithful Guardian of Carmel of Quincy, celebrated the clothing of two of their members in a ceremony presided over by their spiritual assistant, Father Arnaud Devillers, FSSP, of St Rose of Lima Parish, Quincy. They are Katherine Rehmsmeyer of Hannibal, Mo., and Mary Voorhis of Quincy.
They were clothed with the large brown ceremonial scapular after completing one year of aspirant formation — and were invited to continue formation with the Secular Discalced Order of Carmelites in preparing for their temporary promise. In addition three members also made their temporary promises at that same ceremony. They are Delfina Cook, Jovita Soliman and Philip Kemner, all of Quincy. These three will continue their formation for the next three years in preparation for their definitive promises of poverty, chastity and obedience according to their state of life. During this period of time, they will mainly focus on the study on the writings of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross.
The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites Community of Quincy meets every first Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Quincy. Visitors are welcome.
