Alton Franciscans celebrate first profession of one novice, reception of three postulants

07 21 2019 Alton Franciscans novices and first professionALTON — The Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George will celebrate the first profession of a novice and the reception into the novitiate of three postulants during holy Mass at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki will be the main celebrant of the Mass, held at St. Mary Church in Alton. He will be joined by several bishops and local and visiting priests.

Sister M. Clare O’Connor will make her first profession of vows. She is the daughter of James and Cynthia O’Connor of Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Following high school, she attended Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.

Receiving the habit, veil and new religious names are Brianna Donahue (Sister Mary Elizabeth Grace), daughter of Cornelius and Lydia Donahue of Knoxville, Tenn.; Kara Esker (Sister Mary Avila), daughter of Joseph and Angela Esker of Teutopolis; and Rebecca Panuska (Sister Mary Emmaus), daughter of Steven and Joan Panuska of St. Michael, Minn.

Mass in the church is open to the public. Also, a reception for the newly-professed and newly-received sisters will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Suddes Hall, directly behind the church.
