09 29 2019 Kriesel joins Discalced CarmelitesPEORIA HEIGHTS ― Earlier this year, June Kriesel, a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Mattoon, received the Rite of Definitive Promises with The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peoria Heights. Her Carmelite name is Mary Therese of the Immaculate Heart.

That day the Carmelites celebrated with a Mass of the Rite of Admission and Clothing, the Rite of Temporary Promises, the Rite of Definitive Promises and the Rite of Taking the Vows. Kriesel explains that she chose to join the Mary, Mother of the Blessed Sacrament Community in the Peoria diocese because it was closer to her home.

Msgr. Jason Gray, spiritual advisor of the community, received the members in their proper rites. He was the main celebrant with the following concelebrants; Father Thomas Taylor, Father John Verrier, Father Stephen Willard, Father Matthew Deptula, Deacon Roger Hunter, Deacon Gene Uptmor and Deacon Charlie Robbins. A reception was also held for friends and families.

The Mary, Mother of the Blessed Sacrament Community has been in existence since September 2003. It meets the second Saturday of the month at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Mass begins at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and social. Members then break off into our separate study groups for formation.
