03 08 2020 Mary Poppin visits class rgbThere is much excitement in the air as the Sacred Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School Music Department prepares for the 2020 spring musical, Mary Poppins, which will bring the SHG Dominican Hall Theatre to life Friday, March 20-Sunday, March 22 and Friday, March 27-Sunday, March 29. This is the first time that a high school has performed Mary Poppins, the musical, in Central Illinois.

Mary Poppins is preparing to take the stage by making her rounds to the Springfield Catholic grade schools to read Mary Poppins, the story book, to the students. Mary, played by Lucy Harmon (Christ the King graduate ‘17), made her first visit to St. Patrick Catholic School on Feb. 24. St. Patrick’s students enjoyed the story time, a sweet treat, and a few students even got Mary’s autograph.

Mary will be visiting the rest of the Springfield Catholic grade schools in early March. Tickets are on sale now and you can purchase them by calling the school at (217) 787-1595, ext. 153. Adult tickets are $10 and senior/students are $8. A children’s event will take place on March 22 at 12 p.m. Mary Poppins is directed by Morgan Kaplan (SHG ‘05) and Zoey Zara. Music direction is by Damien Kaplan (SHG ‘04), director of Music Activities.
