QUINCY — Quincy Notre Dame High School recently announced that QND senior Meredith Siebers has been named to the 2020 IHSA All-State Academic Honorable Mention Team and her twin brother Luke Siebers is among the 10 finalists for the “This I Believe” essay program, sponsored by the National Public Radio (NPR) Illinois and the Rotary Club of Springfield Sunrise.
The IHSA All-State Academic Team honors high school student-athletes that possess a minimum 3.50 grade point average after their seventh semester, have participated in at least two IHSA sponsored activities during each of the last two years of high school and demonstrated outstanding citizenship. Nominations come from the high schools and are evaluated by a committee made up of IHSA principals, athletic directors and activities directors. Meredith has been a four-year member of the QND volleyball and soccer teams.
As a finalist for the “This I Believe” essay program, Luke was to have read his essay at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum’s Union Theatre on March 4. He also received a $500 college scholarship. The essay contest is based on the 1951 program hosted by Edward R. Murrow that gave contributors the opportunity to write a short essay conveying what they believe. NPR Illinois adopted this idea to ask Central Illinois high school seniors to write about their beliefs as they prepare to enter adulthood.
