ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA. — Duane O. Haag of St. Simons Island, Ga., father of Father Michael Haag of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, passed away at his home on Aug. 22. He was 83 years old and had formerly lived in Morton.
He was born on July 4, 1937, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to John and Vilo (Hanson) Haag. He married Mary Ann Shipreck in Notre Dame, Ind., on Feb. 11, 1961.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Haag of St. Simons Island, Ga.; two sons, Christopher (Susan) Haag of Bloomington, and Father Haag of Carlinville; one daughter, Valerie Haag of Naples, Fla.; three grandchildren, Alexander, Stephanie, and Natalie; one brother, Dyrald (Jayne) Haag of Alpharetta, Ga.; and one sister, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Henning of Naples, Fla., and Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, James, and Jerome; and one sister, Debra.
He worked at Bethlehem Steel for three years, and then as a mechanical engineer for Caterpillar, Inc., retiring after 35 years.
A funeral service was held on Aug. 29, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Father Haag officiating. Burial was at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
