Obituary - Sister Lorine Huelskamp, PHJC

She was born Florence Huelskamp on Nov. 10, 1922, in Breese, the daughter of Herman and Catherine Petermeier Huelskamp. She entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ (Ancilla Domini) on Dec. 8, 1941 and professed her first vows on June 25, 1944.

Sister Lorine earned her bachelor’s degree in education, with an emphasis in English/history at Alverno College in Milwaukee in 1958. She received a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Loyola University, Chicago, in 1971.

Sister Lorine taught at St. Joseph, Mishawaka, Ind.; St. Boniface, Edwardsville; St. Augustine and St. Henry, Chicago; and St. John, Belleville. She served as a principal and teacher at St. Mary in Edwardsville; Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Hammond, Ind.; St. Catherine of Siena in Hammond; and St. Vincent in Fort Wayne, Ind. Sister Lorine served as a pastoral minister at St. Catherine of Siena in Hammond and St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy.

In 1998 she came to Ancilla Domini Convent and worked in the business office and since 2004, when she retired, was in community service.

Sister Lorine is survived by her birth sister, Sister David Huelskamp, PHJC. Among her numerous nieces and nephews, she is the aunt of Sister Julia Huelskamp and associates Al and Eleanor Fiascone and Dennis and Lorraine Huelskamp and Mary Lou Hansen who lived with the Huelskamp family.

There are also many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding Sister Lorine in death are her parents and eight brothers and sisters. They are: Emma Petranih, Joseph Huelskamp, Rose Rengier, Angie Hall, Al Huelskamp, Sisters Erwin and Lawrence Huelskamp, PHJC and Mary Zimmerly.

The Mass of Resurrection was held June 4 in the Ancilla Domini Chapel in Donaldson, Ind., with Father Edward Konnerman officiating.  Burial was in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson.
