Obituary - Sister Rita McGrath, OP

She was born to Ellen (McGuire) and James McGrath in Murrayville. She joined the Dominican Sisters in 1939.

Sister Rita spent her life ministering in the fields of elementary education and support services. She began in 1941 teaching first and second grade at St. Christina School in Chicago. She served at St. Michael in Duluth Minn.; St. Edward and Our Lady of Grace in Chicago; St. Maurice in Morrisonville; St. Thomas in Philo; Ss. Peter and Paul in Cary; St. Isidore in Farmersville; and Sacred Heart Academy and Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield.

Sister Rita was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Regina; and brothers, Richard, George and John. She is survived by her brothers, Paul and Charles; sisters, Mary and Helen; nieces and nephews; and her Dominican sisters.

The funeral Mass was July 27 at Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, presiding. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield.

Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
