Obituary - Sister M. Margene O’Donnell, OSF

The former Margaret Lenore O’Donnell was born in Chippewa Falls, Wis., on Jan. 30, 1918, the daughter of John and Margaret Maloney O’Donnell. She entered the congregation on Feb. 2, 1937, and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1939.

Sister M. Margene served the community as a nurse in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. In addition, she also served in pastoral care at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, from 1986-1994. She returned to the motherhouse in 1995.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John, and two sisters, Lucille Joas and Dorothy George.

She is survived by four sisters, Ann (Pat) Egan, Helen Dineen, Eileen Sims, and Edna (Dale) Fredrick; and one brother, Clifford (Donita) O’Donnell; many nieces and nephews, several cousins, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 72 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, on Oct. 7 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
