Obituary - Sister Catherine Harrison, OSU

The daughter of Margaret Mary Lane and Franklin Troy Harrison, she was born on June 17, 1915, in Houston. After graduating from Ursuline Academy in San Antonio, she entered the Ursuline Novitiate in Alton, making her first vows on Jan. 16, 1936. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, and later a master’s degree in administration from the same college.

Sister Catherine served the Ursulines and the church as a teacher on elementary and secondary levels, as supervisor of schools in Dallas, Springfield and Crystal City, Mo. She was retreat house director in Frontenac, Minn.; in local community leadership in Galveston and Laredo in Texas; and in prison ministry in Dallas. In June 2000, she retired and moved to the Alton Queen of Peace Community.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, John and Troy; and two sisters, Margaret and Mary.

Sister Catherine gave her body to St. Louis University Medical School. A memorial service to celebrate her life was held Nov. 14 at the Ursuline Convent in Alton, with Father Rudy Nowakowski, OMI, presiding.
