Obituary - Sister M. Michaelene Grady, OP

She was born to Michael and Pauline Student Grady in Springfield and joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1936. Sister M. Michaelene taught in Catholic elementary and secondary schools in Illinois. Grade schools included: St. Edward and St. Christina, Chicago; St. John, Carrollton; St. Malachy, Rantoul; Sacred Heart, Granite City (principal); and St. Patrick, Springfield. In 1962 she began teaching in high schools: Routt, Jacksonville; Bergan, Peoria; Rosary, Aurora; and Marian, Chicago Heights. Before retiring in 1991, Sister M. Michaelene spent seven years in the pastoral care department at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, Miss.

Sister M. Michaelene was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Agnes and Eileen; and brothers John, Howard, and Edmund. She is survived by her brother Francis, nieces, nephews, friends and her Dominican sisters.

The funeral Mass was held Nov. 29 at Sacred Heart Convent, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.
